미국 판지포장협회(Paperboard Packaging Council, PPC)가 주관하는 2001 판지포장 컴페티션 수상자가 발표되었다. 이번 2001 판지포장 컴페티션에서는 폴딩카톤의 다기능을 보여주는 자리가 되었다.

PPC는 이번 컴페티션에서 출품한 제품 중 다음의 3가지 부분에 초점을 맞추어 심사를 하였다.

- 내부 포장제품/ 컨버팅 가공

- 유저 업체의 환경성

- 소비자 환경과의 관계

선정제품은 각 부분에 있어 10점만점 기준으로 점수가 매겨 졌으며 이를 통해 높은 점수를 받은 제품이 선정되었다. 대상 수상 제품은 각 부분별 합산 점수가 가장 높은 제품이 선정되었다. 기술혁신 부분 수상제품은 코카콜라 멀티팩에 적용된 제품이다.

금상을 수상한 제품은 3가지 심사기준으로 하여 총 30점 중 최저 24점 이상을 받아야만 한다. 올해에는 14개의 제품이 금상을 수상하였다. 각각의 제품사진에는 회사명, 제조공장 위치, 패키지 제품명, 분야 및 앤드유저명이 적혀 있다.


President´s Award

Infusion Basketball / Inland Consumer Packaging

uses a combination of holographic foil and vivid colors to reflect the uniqueness of a new product that is being introduced by Spalding Sports Worldwide, Inc. The side panels are used effectively to explain the features of the product. In addition, the structural design allows consumers to both view and touch the product.

Technical Innovation/Achievement Award

DuoStrap Can Pack / Mead Packaging

This package, made for Coca Cola, contains a newly patented easy-to-use handle for comfortable carrying. A patented rollout device allows for easy opening and dispensing. There is also a special device that allows the consumer to easily open the end panel.

Decadent Chocolate Cookies Collection / Caraustar Custom Packaging Group

Pepperidge Farm, Inc. The package demonstrates that recycled paperboard can be used in high quality image packaging. The embossing and foil stamping add a degree of elegance to the product.

Beverage Carriers

DuoStrap Can Pack / Mead Packaging Group

This package, which also won the Structural/Technical Innovation Award, contained an innovative newly patented handle, a newly patented roll out device for dispensing cans, and a special opening device.

Crown Royal "Special Reserve" / Somerville Packaging

The gold and ribbon motif, embossed full panels, and stylish renderings convey the subtle yet classic image synonymous with the product. The cartons are easy to use, transport, and store.

Beverage Cartons

Virginia Gentleman (VG90) / Caraustar Custom Packaging Group

The carton, which replaces an easy carry bag, ships well, is easy to store, looks good on the shelf, and protects the product. The reproduction of a family-owned painting of a hunt on the package is an important part of the product´s marketing.

Clydesdale Holiday Limited Edition Gift Set / Inland Consumer Packaging

An elaborate embossing pattern enhances the company name and logo. The inner book-style structure was a good choice for allowing consumers to view the contents of the package.

Computer/Multimedia Products

Greeting Card Factory Deluxe / Bert-Co Graphics

The carton was printed in four-color process, UV coated, foil-stamped, embossed, debossed, die cut, and glued all under one roof. By incorporating tip-in pages in the bookstyle design, the package offers extensive space for information about the product.

Candy Bar Factory / Caraustar Custom Packaging Group

The design of the outer carton helped the graphics emphasize the construction zone look of a sign. The insert structure was effective in protecting the package´s contents while the place mat was well-designed and constructed for providing directions, serving as a surface for building the candy bar, and protecting the furniture used during the candy bar-making process.

Book and Bunny Gift Pack / Dixie Printing & Packaging Corporation

The carton successfully secures and protects two different items while attractively positioning them for the consumer to view. The graphics give the desired warm, friendly, and family feeling of Beatrix Potter´s children´s books.

By scanning a silk sash and photo manipulation, the carton was given the appearance of fabric. The telescoping lid is a consumer convenience.

The unusual structural design of this package combines the rigidity of a setup box with the ease of assembly of a folding carton. The attention to detail has resulted in an eye-catching package that will be saved for storage of the product, adding to the perceived value of the product.

The carton demonstrates very good four-color process control of "picture heavy" graphics and large areas of black. The graphics are effective in providing consumers with everything they need to know about the product without opening the carton.

An assortment of converting operations was successfully utilized to produce a structure that simulates a medicine cabinet. The promotional piece is well-designed to appeal to its target audience of hospital nurses.

Goodie Ship and Goodie Ball Items / Caraustar Custom Packaging Group

The package´s three die cut openings provide excellent product visibility. The package, which replaces a thermoformed clam shell, is easier to open than its predecessor and can be merchandised by hanging on pegs, stacking on shelves, or placing in end-aisle displays.
