The Cans of the Year winner gets temperatures rising
A self-activating insecticide dispenser won the international Cans of the Year award as well as earning gold in the general line/industrial category.
Chugai Pharmaceutical´s Varsan container is made up of three components. An internal cup contains insecticide in pellet form, below which calcium oxide heats up when the can is soaked in water. This evaporates the insecticide through a filter in the top of the container.
Safety was a key consideration when developing the container. With the use of Toyo Seikan´s TULC technology and Nikken Shiko´s precise deep drawing techniques, clear instructions are printed on the flat top rim of the can to avoid misuse by customers.
Available in two sizes, the Varsan container uses environmentally sound manufacturing techniques with no lubricants or coatings. Launched in February 2001, more than five million are expected to be produced this year.
